My work employs narrative and subtle metaphor to deal with complex and unexpected relationships that happen in the natural world. Tension and angst are juxtaposed through the positioning of the figures, then diffused with elegant formal elements. Animals intermingle in stages of conflict and impulsive acts including betrayal and other primal desires. The defining qualities of the animal are both stylized and threatening, presenting ambiguous predator and prey struggles. Their petting-zoo friendly qualities are overshadowed by prehistoric characteristics, which ask the viewer to reconsider seemingly obvious interpretations. In sequence, the sculptures create a personal mythical language, which celebrates and distorts familiar animal archetypes.
